My first interview (to my knowledge) by a self-acknowledged witch. I'm not quite sure what I'm expecting, but something interesting..... ;-) Here is what Magick Mind Radio's web site says:
Monday August 16th, at 8-9pm ET Dr.CHARLES T. TART, Dr. Tart pioneered the field of consciousness studies decades ago, with his classic best-selling anthology Altered States of Consciousness, in print for more than 20 years and selected by Common Boundary as on of the one hundred most influential pyschology books of the twentieth century. Dr. Tart is credited with almost single-handeldy legitimizing the study of altered states, including hypnosis, meditation, lucid dreaming and drug-induced states. He initiated several important lines of research in parapsychology, including the teaching of ESP and out-of-body experiences. Magick Mind Radio

Altered States and the Spiritual Awakening Conference. July 11-13, 2003, San Francisco. Charles Tart will deliver a keynote address:(Unenlightened?) Reflections on Enlightenment and Spiritual Growth Keynote Address desciption: Many of us want, to try to attain some high condition of grace or "enlightenment," to grow in a spiritual way. Professor Tart will share his scientific and common sense (unenlightened?) thinking on what this might mean in practice. For example, what sort of method or path is the best way, or even a good way, for particular individuals, for example? Do we all end up in the same condition or are there many desirable end points we might call growth or enlightenment? How can this search for enlightenment actually be an avoidance of real growth? How does you and your cultures' world view affect what is possible here? When are we really growing and when are we fooling ourselves?

Life After Death? Scientific Evidence for the
Possibility. Public Lecture in Santa Barbara. Lobero Theatre, 33 E. Canon Perdido (1 block off State St, behind Borders Bookstore, 7:30pm. Our eventual death, and beliefs about it, affect
almost everything we do in life. At one extreme is the
materialist view that life is a meaningless chemical
accident: belief in any kind of life after death is
a superstition, so gather ye rosebuds while
ye may and try not to despair. At the other extreme
are various beliefs that death is a gateway to another
kind of existence, and that the quality of that future
existence depends on how you live your current life. Many think
materialism is the only scientific answer and that
believing in an afterlife requires a stupid kind of
faith. There is actually high quality, but largely
ignored, scientific evidence suggesting there may
be some sort of after-death existence. Whenever
knowledge is incomplete, some faith, as at least an
educated guess, is necessary, but the more such
faith is based on and compatible with solid knowledge,
the better. Professor Tart will survey the indirect
and direct scientific evidence.

Parapsychology: State of the Art and Implications for Consciousness Studies. Co-led with Charles T. Tart and Marilyn Schlitz of the Institute of Noetic Sciences.
People have always experienced things which seem to imply that the mind can receive information (telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition - ESP) and sometimes produce physical effects (psychokinesis, healing) in ways that transcend known physical limits. The workshop will (a) provide a historical overview of parapsychology, (b) consider methodological problems and their solutions, (c) review the current state of the art in four principal areas (remote viewing, ganzfeld ESP studies, psychokinetic effects on random event generators, and psychokinetic effects on living organisms["psychic healing"]), (d) have an experiential period for a remote viewing type procedure, to concretize our discussions, (e) discuss implications of this parapsychological data for understanding and studying the nature of consciousness, and (f) have general discussion of the area. Observing the Mind: Basic Training in Skillful Means. Workshop on Meditation and Mindfulness preceeding the 2002 Toward A Science of Consciousness conference, University of Arizona, Tucson
This workshop will introduce participants to three basic techniques for calming the mind (concentrative meditation), developing deeper understanding of the mind (insight meditation, vipassana), and becoming able to observe deeper mental processes under ordinary life conditions (Gurdjieffian self-remembering). The workshop emphasis is on learning actual skills, rather than just talking about them. These skills can make us better scientists, improve our ability to obtain data about consciousness, and can apply to personal efforts such as stress reduction, clearer reality contact, and improving the quality of life. From 6:30 to 10:00 pm, Pacific Time, this Saturday, March 16th, I will be interviewed on the coast-to-coast Dreamland show, with interviewer Whitley Streiber. The Dreamland web site for more info (although they won't be posting about this show until Wednesday or Thursday) is www.unknowncountry.com, The site is not as well organized as it could be, as there's no easy way to find out which of your local stations carries the show, but the Dreamland producer suggests " Your friends should look for us on their local AM talk station that carries Rush Limbaugh and Coast to Coast AM (most stations have websites listing their schedule). If we're not on in their area, they can listen to the archive after (not during) the show by clicking "Listen Now" at the top of our homepage Dreamland Web Site
